THE START OF PIMHA
I wanted to start PIMHA because I noticed that within our generation, Mental Wellness is something that has become more talked about amongst populations and advocated for, however, often times talked about from a very wide lens. For example, self-care is often taught to prioritize the self in order to improve one's mental health , however fails to acknowledge that “self-care” is a much more complicated concept for people who live in collectivist cultures, where the self is often ingrained into family.
I wanted to create an org that talked about mental health from a more critical lens, inclusive of all intersections of identities, and how mental health applies across the various disciplines. I wanted to build a coalition of mental health advocates to also incorporate culturally specific advocacy into their practices.
